Calculate your Hourly Effective Rate

How to Use the HER Calculator

  1. Add Tasks: Click "Add Main Task" to create top-level project tasks.
  2. (Optional) Import Data: Click "Import Data" to load tasks and settings from a previously exported JSON file.
  3. Estimate Hours & Value: For each task *without* subtasks, enter the estimated hours and select its value label (Low, Medium, High, Very High).
  4. Add Subtasks (Optional): Click the icon on a task to add subtasks underneath it.
  5. Subtask Details: Enter hours and value for each subtask. Note: Parent task hours/value will be disabled and automatically derived from its subtasks.
  6. Set Time Allocation: Adjust the Ad-hoc (unplanned work) and Buffer (padding) percentages as needed.
  7. Enter Project Price: Input the total fixed price for the project.
  8. Calculate: Click the "Calculate HER" button.
  9. Review Results: Analyze your Hourly Effective Rate (HER), time breakdown (Task, Ad-hoc, Buffer), value breakdown (hours per value label), and value density (% of high/very high value hours).
  10. Export/Reset: Use the "Export Report (HTML)" button for a shareable report, "Export Data (JSON)" to save for later import, or "Reset All" to clear the form.
